Drugs & Jesus II

Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Corinthians 10

This post is for those of us who profess that Jesus is Lord, but can’t understand why we don’t see more deliverance and healing in our finances, relationships, marriages, jobs, etc. If at this point using Jesus as our example hasn’t hit home hard enough, let’s go deeper beyond the why surrounding this topic.

The second point from Part 1 comes from 1 Corinthians 10:14-22.

It is written…
Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry. I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.

Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

It is also written…
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.
1 Corinthians 6:19

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
Galatians 5:4

Point: Drugs are not of God! Therefore it is a tool of the enemy.

If the Bible is true and if we profess Jesus as Lord, then what are we supposed to do? Some of us have been using drugs recreationally for years. Most of us know at least one person who has died from drugs in our lifetimes. What about those of us who use it to ease our pain.

To make the assumption outside medical advice that drugs are needed diminishes the power that we so claim we believe in. If a person is genuinely in need due to medical reasons, do what you feel God calls them to do. May God will be done and he continues to gain glory from our lives regardless.

However, let’s be upfront and real. Most of the time there is a deeper symptom happening under the surface.

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Matthew 7:15-20

Know your enemy!

Drugs have not and never will produce Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, or Self-Control. On the contrary, drugs are predicated on the deception that we need anything else outside of God. Does that not sound familiar?
If you don’t know I will pull a quote from the church of satan website.

https://www.churchofsatan.com/faq-fundamental-beliefs/
Q: Why do Satanists worship The Devil?
A: We don’t. Satanists are atheists. We see the universe as being indifferent to us, and so all morals and values are subjective human constructions. Our position is to be self-centered, with ourselves being the most important person (the “God”) of our subjective universe, so we are sometimes said to worship ourselves

What?!

Drugs are a tool to enhance our belief in ourselves. The very thing that God said from Genesis to Revelations to not do. Everything good comes from God. So why would we walk in the shadow and framework of the enemy? The table of Demons? We can not receive the blessing of the Lord if we choose to sit and share life with demons. It doesn’t work that way.

We must open our eyes to the truth. There is only one way to stop addictions of any kind in our lives. There is only one way to stop participating in the sharing of life through demonic influence. Take communion seriously and recognize that Jesus invites us to share his life when we choose to pick up our crosses and follow him. Do not go to the world as the source of your information. We must keep our eyes on Jesus and stay at his table, where we are free.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Galatians 5:16-18

Sanctification III: Recognize your Thirst

Having injested and saturated our mind and bodies with rebelliousness, we fail to recognize just how dangerous it truly is. Jesus said he has a living water that will cause us to never thirst again. As such, a few questions should be floating around in our heads. What is this thing called living water? Why is it important to be filled with it?
