Drugs & Jesus

What does God say about drugs in general? Why do so many people get tripped up on this topic? Why have Christians compromised to the point that the government has allowed weed to be considered almost harmless?
Let’s talk this out.
It is written…
As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there.
Matthew 27:32-36
The wine they offered Jesus moments before being crucified was mixed with a substance called gall. Gall is an herb that was very bitter but would dull a person’s senses. It was common back in those days to offer a person this mixture to help them endure their crucifixion.
Jesus tasted it real quick and realizing what it was he refused it. At that point, he had been flogged at the maximum amount of lashes. He then was mocked, and spit on, slapped in the face, beat him across the head with a staff that was given to him only so they could mock and crack jokes. By the time they made it to the spot where the main portion of his suffering was about to begin, he already had endured so much.
Let us be honest, generally speaking, we don’t go through NOWHERE near as much stress, heartache, and pain. Yet before they put the nails in his hands and feet, Jesus realized what it was that they were offering him and he said NO.
Fellow believers in Jesus… if we are struggling with drugs, including cannabis, we must understand a couple points.
First, drugs are used for the purpose of twisting the mind or to escape one’s reality. The notion that drugs can be controlled or that we can control ourselves while being twisted is demonic teaching. Brothers and sisters let us use sound reasoning on this topic. Let’s take a look at common arguments made by people to justify smoking weed.
“Weed is just a plant. God created the plants and called them good so weed must be ok to smoke.”
“I smoke because I’m in pain and it takes my mind off the pain.”
“I smoke to go to sleep.”
“I love Cannabis because it helps me concentrate and focus. I get creative.”
These examples are nowhere near an exhaustive list of excuses that people use in support of weed/ drugs. However, the reality about drugs is that they open the door to demonic activity. The excuse doesn’t matter. At the end of the day, demons want us as humans to share their life and experiences. Why? For as long as they can trick a person to think they have all the answers and all the power, they can operate in greater and greater ways within your life. All for the sole purpose of trying to disrupt God’s Will by way of stealing (our attention from God), killing (to separate from something; in other words death), or destroying (creating chaos). Just because weed may not have the same effects as most other drugs, does not mean there are no consequences for sharing at the table of demons.
Table of Demons? Pause…
What a place to stop. Be on the lookout for Part II as we close out this topic.
